Steelers Reportedly Signing Guard From Commanders Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers certainly are busy right now.

Pittsburgh suffered its first loss of the season in Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts. Things didn’t work out in the clash, but now the Steelers are looking ahead to their Week 5 showdown against the Dallas Cowboys. Pittsburgh is looking to get back in the win column and it seems like Justin Fields will be under center once again against a fantastic performance against Indianapolis.

The Steelers have been looking for more protection on the offensive line and reportedly made a move on Tuesday by signing veteran guard Max Scharping off the Washington Commanders’ practice squad, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“Steelers are likely to sign veteran guard Max Scharping off the Commanders’ practice squad, per sources,” Fowler said. “Pittsburgh is decimated by injuries and Scharping has starter’s experience.”

Fowler later followed up his initial report and confirmed that Scharping will be signing with Pittsburgh.

“This is now confirmed, per source,” Fowler said. “Scharping was with Bengals for two seasons so Steelers got a close look at him.”

Scharping was selected by the Houston Texans in the second round of the 2019 National Football League Draft. He spent the first three years of his career with the Texans. Scharping spent the last two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Now, he will get an opportunity with the Steelers as they attempt to bolster the offensive line.
