Steelers Are ‘Very Happy’ With Way Justin Fields Has Played In 2024

What will Pittsburgh do?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a roller coaster of a few months.

Pittsburgh wanted to improve the quarterback position and did so not by just adding one quarterback but two. The Steelers made bold moves and acquired both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. It was expected that Wilson was going to be the team’s starting quarterback but a calf injury may have changed things.

Fields has been starting for the Steelers so far this season and has done a good job. He fought for the starting job throughout the summer and made the decision difficult. Wilson was named the starter ahead of Week 1, but hasn’t appeared in a game yet.

Now, the question has come up again about who will start for the rest of the season. It’s unclear at this point, but Pittsburgh is “very happy” with the way Fields has played so far this season, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

“I checked in with some people there Monday, and they are pleased with the way Justin Fields is progressing,” Graziano said. “They feel like he has played a couple of smart games and is executing the game plan well. They also believe they had chances to put up bigger numbers Sunday against (the Denver Broncos) but were done in by some penalties. The Steelers have a young group around Fields, and they’re very thin at wide receiver — basically, it’s George Pickens, who’s still maturing and developing as a player, and not much else. But they’re very happy with what they’re getting from their young offensive linemen and their tight ends (and, of course, their defense).”

Fields has done a great job in the starting job so far this season and now it is a real question who will have the job once both quarterbacks are healthy.
