Steelers Legend Gives His Take On Who Should Be Quarterback

The Steelers legend has spoken

Once everyone is healthy, who will be the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting quarterback?

Justin Fields has been under center for each of the team’s first two contests. Pittsburgh won both games and he is in line to start his third game of the season in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Fields has been under center because fellow quarterback Russell Wilson has been dealing with a calf injury, but he has been making progress. Wilson was named the team’s starter before he reaggravated the injury ahead of Week 1. Now, it’s unclear who the long-term solution is.

If Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger had it his way, though, it would be Fields moving forward as transcribed by Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith.

“Roethlisberger said on his podcast that the Steelers have played well enough with Fields starting the first two games that there’s no reason to make a change,” Smith posted.

“I like what I’ve seen, I like that he’s getting into it, I like that he’s getting the feel of it,” Roethlisberger said. “If you told me they were 1-1 or 0-2 and these are going on, I’d think they’d have to do something, but again, he’s not turning the ball over, they’re 2-0. Big test this week with the Chargers coming to town. To me, if Russ is healthy, I’m sticking with Justin. I said last week I wouldn’t, but what I saw (in Week Two). I think that he has earned and deserves the right to stay there.”

Fields certainly has impressed so far in the small sample size and is making the decision very difficult.
