The Pittsburgh Steelers seemingly want to add a new star receiver but they may not end up being able to.
Pittsburgh has been in the news lately as it has been linked to San Francisco 49ers superstar Brandon Aiyuk. The 26-year-old is widely considered among the top receivers in football and has been in the news for the wrong reasons this offseason. Aiyuk has been in trade rumors as he has been looking for a new contract.
It has been a rollercoaster. At some points, it has seemed like a guarantee that he would sign a new deal with San Francisco, and at other times, he would be traded. Pittsburgh seems like the only possible landing spot if he leaves the 49ers.
While it would be great for the Steelers to land him, the chances of a trade seem to have dropped. 49ers general manager John Lynch recently joined the Tolbert & Copes show on KNBR and gave an update on the talks with Aiyuk and Steelers fans won’t be happy.
“It’s been a long, arduous, hard process, a hard journey,” Lynch said. “We started this early and for whatever reason haven’t been able to get it across the finish line. That’s been frustrating, but the communication still has been really good both with Brandon and his agent, and we’re trying to figure out solutions. You know I’m always hopeful. I’m an optimistic person in nature, and I’m always hopeful that we’ll get there and get there soon.”

While it seemed like Aiyuk would be traded, that may not be the case any longer. Pittsburgh could use him, but he may end up sticking around with San Francisco.
