The Pittsburgh Steelers will have a tough decision to make in the not-so-distant future.
Pittsburgh won 10 games last season but entered the offseason looking to improve the quarterback spot. The Steelers not only added one quarterback, but two. Pittsburgh signed nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson and traded for former first-round draft pick Justin Fields.
It seemed like a guarantee that Wilson would be the team’s starting quarterback in 2024 with Fields serving as the backup. There has been some chatter that Wilson likely would leave after the season opening the door for Fields to then take over the starting job.
Things have started to shift, though. Wilson went down with an injury early in camp which opened the door for Fields to get more repetitions with the first team and has made the most out of them. Now, it seems like we have a real quarterback competition on our hands and it’s unclear who will win.
Wilson made his preseason debut on Saturday night against the Buffalo Bills and got the start. Overall, Wilson played in five series and finished the night 8-for-10 passing for 47 yards. He was sacked three times and finished the night with an 86.2 quarterback rating.

The Steelers failed to score any points with Wilson under center. Fields wasn’t exceptionally better but did have a better night overall.
Pittsburgh will have a tough decision to make and at this point, the starting quarterback job seems to be completely up for grabs.
