The linebacker depth for the Pittsburgh Steelers has taken a hit.
Pittsburgh announced Friday that Markus Golden has been placed on the Reserve/Retired List as the linebacker heads into retirement after nine seasons in the NFL.

The Steelers signed Golden on Aug. 1 to bolster their linebacker depth, marking his second stint with the team after he played a key role for the team in 2023. His second tenure with the team lasted eight days before he made the decision hang up the cleats.

In his lone season with Pittsburgh, he played in 16 games, posting 20 total tackles as well as four sacks — which was the third-best on the entire team behind T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith.
The Missouri product was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, who selected the linebacker with the 58th overall pick in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. The 33-year-old recorded 343 career tackles and 51 sacks in 127 games over his nine-year career. The linebacker also played for the New York Giants during his career.
Pittsburgh’s roster is far from set and they have plenty of time to make more decisions ahead of the 2024 NFL season. The Steelers will officially kick off their campaign on Sep. 8 against the Atlanta Falcons at 1 p.m. EST.
