The San Francisco 49ers have been in the news for all of the wrong reasons lately.
San Francisco certainly will be one of the top teams in football in 2024, but it likely won’t have one of its top players from the 2024 season on the roster. Young receiver Brandon Aiyuk has developed into one of the top receivers in football and is looking for a new contract.
The 49ers and Aiyuk haven’t been able to come to terms on a deal yet and it doesn’t seem like a deal is going to happen at this point. Aiyuk recently requested a trade and it seems all but certain that he is going to be moved. The Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, Washington Commanders, and Cleveland Browns have been the four teams most linked to Aiyuk.
It’s unclear where he will land, but Pittsburgh reportedly is his “preferred destination,” according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco.
“The Steelers were not willing to meet 49ers trade demand yesterday,” Maiocco said. “Pittsburgh has been a preferred destination for Aiyuk.”

Pittsburgh has been linked to a few receivers as possible options to bolster the offense and Aiyuk would be a fantastic choice. He had just under 1,400 receiving yards in 2023 with seven touchdowns. That type of production could take the Steelers’ offense to another level. Pittsburgh already added both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Bringing in someone like Aiyuk only could help although the price tag will be high.
