What Steelers’ Chris Boswell Told Ravens Kicker After Game-Costing Miss

'Got to move past it'

Chris Boswell showed class after Sunday’s heated rivalry game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.

The Steelers clinched the AFC North title with a 26-24 win after Ravens kicker Tyler Loop missed a 44-yard field goal with seconds remaining. Before commencing his celebration, Boswell found Loop and consoled the rookie on the Acrisure Stadium field.

Boswell revealed his message to Loop on Friday morning, per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.

“When we fail, it’s in the public eye for everybody to see,” Boswell said. “I just wanted to run over to him and let him know, a kick is a kick. Got to move past it.”

Boswell endured his own blunder when the Ravens blocked an extra point after Pittsburgh’s go-ahead touchdown, keeping the lead at two. The 11-year-old veteran knows the lonely feeling of missing a crucial kick, so he wanted to make sure Loop didn’t dwell on his untimely miscue.

“Anybody can go through it. I just kind of wanted to give him that from someone who’s been there,” Boswell said. “There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel type thing. He knows this, but it’s up to him, and he’s just got to move on and it’s about the next kick.”

Loop converted 30 of 34 field goals in his first season replacing All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker. Sunday’s miss marked the 24-year-old’s first unsuccessful try within 50 yards.

While Loop has an entire offseason to remember the miss, Boswell and the Steelers will prepare for Monday night’s first-round playoff matchup against the Houston Texans.
