Aaron Rodgers Shocks Steelers Fans With Historic Run Vs. Ravens

Rodgers proved he can still run when he needs to

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers pulled out all the stops in Sunday night’s wild 26-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens. He did most of his damage with his arm, racking up a season-high 294 passing yards and throwing the game-winning touchdown to Calvin Austin III during the final minute.

He even used his 42-year-old legs when he had to, busting out his longest run in years late in the second quarter.

With two minutes left in the second quarter, the Steelers had the ball and were down 10-3, looking to even the score before halftime. On third and nine, Rodgers rolled out to his left and shockingly broke loose for a 20-yard run, taking advantage of the open space in front of him to get the first down and more.

It kept Pittsburgh’s drive alive, although the half ended with Kenneth Gainwell getting stuffed at the one-yard line.

Regardless, it wasn’t just Rodgers’ longest run of the year. It was his longest run since 2018 and double his previous long from this season. Prior to Sunday, he hadn’t rushed for more than eight yards in a game all season.

While he only ran once, Rodgers finished with more rushing yards on Sunday than Lamar Jackson, who managed just nine rushing yards on four attempts.

Rodgers’ scamper was also the longest run by a 42-year-old since Doug Flutie in 2004. Flutie’s run came in the first game Philip Rivers ever threw a pass, while Rodgers’ run came on the day of Rivers’ final NFL game.

Rodgers may not be the MVP talent he once was, but he still knows how to read a defense and take what it gives him, even if that means using his wheels.
