Steelers Backup Earns Major Award, Joins Exclusive Club That Includes T.J. Watt

Terry Bradshaw and T.J. Watt are previous winners of the award

Defensive back Jalen Ramsey and linebacker T.J. Watt are the only Pro Bowl representatives from the Pittsburgh Steelers, but backup running back Kenneth Gainwell earned the honor of team MVP on Friday.

“.@KENNETHGAINWEL was voted the 2025 Team MVP by his teammates,” the Steelers official account posted on X.

Gainwell has had a career year during his first season in Pittsburgh, registering high marks in carries (109), rushing yards (527), receptions (team-leading 65), receiving yards (422), scrimmage yards (949) and touchdowns (seven), among other categories.

He’s added 601 yards on 25 kickoff returns, giving him a team-best 1,550 all-purpose yards.

“Kenny’s been unbelievable in the passing game, just unbelievable,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said, according to a report by Steelers.com’s Teresa Varley. “And he’s so dang smart.”

After inking a one-year, $1.79 million contract with the franchise in March, Gainwell has now joined an impressive list of Steelers MVPs, including legends Terry Bradshaw and T.J. Watt.
