The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Yegor Chinakhov from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday.
Pittsburgh acquired Chinakhov from the Blue Jackets for forward Danton Heinen, the St. Louis Blues’ 2026 second-round draft pick, and the Washington Capitals’ 2027 third-round draft pick.
The Blue Jackets selected Chinakhov 21st overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. The Russian forward has struggled to fit in, and he requested a trade in the offseason through his agent on social media.
Chinakhov has skated in 29 games, recording three goals and three assists for six points. In his NHL career, he’s recorded 37 goals and 40 assists for 77 points in 204 games. He’s in the final year of his two-year $4.2 million deal and will be a restricted free agent at the conclusion of this season.
In return, Pittsburgh gave up two draft picks as well as Heinen, who recently cleared waivers. He’s skated in 13 games this season, recording one goal and one assist for two points.

The Penguins will return to the ice on Tuesday at home against the Carolina Hurricanes. Pittsburgh is 16-12-9 and is one point back of a playoff spot.
