The Cleveland Browns may be sending out a fourth new quarterback to take a snap this season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Cleveland announced on Saturday that it has promoted quarterback Bailey Zappe from the practice squad to the active roster for the upcoming game against Pittsburgh.
Backup quarterback Dillon Gabriel appeared on the injury report on Friday due to a left shoulder issue.
The Browns need to make sure they have a reliable backup quarterback ready to step in if Shedeur Sanders gets injured.
In 2023, Zappe made one appearance against the Steelers while playing for the New England Patriots. New England emerged victorious with Zappe throwing for 240 yards and three touchdowns.

There’s a possibility the Steelers won’t need to approach the game against Cleveland too seriously. If the Baltimore Ravens lose to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, then Pittsburgh will clinch the AFC North regardless of the outcome against the Browns.
If the Steelers choose to, they could give some of their starters a break against Cleveland to ensure they stay fresh for the playoffs, which begin in the next two weeks.
