The Pittsburgh Steelers earned their third straight win in Week 16, as they grinded out a thrilling 29-24 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The game was full of controversy, with one incident seeing star Steelers’ wide receiver DK Metcalf confront a Lions fan in the stands at Ford Field.
During this contest, a clip surfaced on social media showing Metcalf approaching a fan in the stands and grabbing him before attempting to throw a punch at him. Unsurprisingly, this wasn’t a great look for Metcalf, but a new report indicates this isn’t the first time Metcalf has had a run-in with the fan, with the star pass catcher claiming he used derogatory language towards him.
“Steelers WR DK Metcalf had a history with the Lions fan he confronted Sunday — Metcalf reported the same fan to Seahawks security last season while playing for Seattle, sources say,” Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported in a post on X. “The NFL is reviewing the incident for potential discipline.
A source close to Metcalf says the fan, who identified himself to the Detroit Free Press as Ryan Kennedy, called Metcalf’s mom a derogatory word and called Metcalf ‘something we both know you don’t call a black man.’ The fan claims Metcalf was upset about being called his full legal name.”
The league will surely take a closer look at this confrontation, but regardless of what they find, there’s a decent chance Metcalf will be punished for his actions one way or another. In the meantime, Pittsburgh will begin preparing for its Week 17 contest against the Cleveland Browns, where a victory would allow it to clinch the AFC North title.
