Pirates Reportedly In Talks To Acquire Brandon Lowe In Three-Team Trade

Lowe smashed 31 home runs in 2025

Brandon Lowe could soon be headed to PNC Park.

The Pittsburgh Pirates, Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays are in the late stages of agreeing to a three-team deal Friday, which will send right-hander Mike Burrows to Houston and infielder Brandon Lowe to Pittsburgh, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome.

It’s a complicated deal, which reportedly involves six total players. Rosenthal provided the specifics of the proposed deal, including where each player will end up once it is completed.

Pirates: infielder Brandon Lowe, left-handed pitcher Mason Montgomery, outfielder Jake Mangum
Astros: right-handed pitcher Mike Burrows
Rays: outfielder Jacob Melton, right-handed pitcher Anderson Brito

Lowe, 31, is the biggest name of the bunch, spending the last eight seasons establishing himself as one of the better power-hitting middle-infielders in the sport — combining to slash .243/.321/.471 with 120 home runs and 333 RBIs since 2021. The Rays only had four above-average bats in their lineup last season, and just traded one of them.
