Just a few weeks ago, it appeared as if the Pittsburgh Steelers were in some trouble. Back-to-back wins over the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins, though, have helped the team return to the top of the AFC North division with three games left in the regular season. A big reason for this quick turnaround has been the play of the offense, which tight end Pat Freiermuth recently discussed.
It hasn’t always been pretty on the offensive side of the ball this season for the Steelers, but they are fresh off scoring 27 and 28 points in their past two games. Freiermuth has found himself a victim of the team’s sometimes volatile offense throughout the year, but things appear to be clicking at the perfect time, and the veteran pass catcher explained what has changed.
“We were able to simplify things, make sure everyone was on the same page (with) what we’re trying to execute, what we’re trying to get done, and go back to what we’ve been comfortable and successful at doing in the past,” Freiermuth said. “We’ve been putting some points up on the board and moving the ball. We just gotta continue to do that.”
With quarterback Aaron Rodgers becoming more and more comfortable in Pittsburgh’s offensive scheme, the team has taken things to another level to help get itself back atop the AFC North division. The Steelers will need an inspired performance in Week 16 if they intend to take down the Detroit Lions, though. Kickoff for this big game is set for 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
