Pirates Surprisingly Pop Up On Ketel Marte’s No-Trade List

Pittsburgh won't be trading for Marte any time soon

The Pittsburgh Pirates have entered the offseason with a sense of urgency, and while they haven’t been particularly busy, they have been linked to a handful of players, indicating that they could make some noise before the start of the 2026 campaign. One player they won’t be acquiring, though, is Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte.

One of the most popular trade targets across the league this offseason, Marte could bolster any lineup he joins this offseason. While the Pirates haven’t exactly been heavily linked to Marte, even if they wanted to trade for him, they would be unable to, as they are reportedly on the All-Star slugger’s five-team no-trade list.

“Marte has a five-team no-trade list – the Athletics, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Giants and Cardinals, according to people briefed on his contract,” Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported. “He will gain full no-trade protection as a player with 10 years of major-league service, five consecutive with the same team, on the 10th day of the 2026 season.”

Why Pittsburgh is on Marte’s no-trade list is unknown, but it makes life easier for the front office, as it can cross him off their board and focus on other potential targets in free agency or on the trade market. To this point, the Pirates have been quiet, but with rumors continuing to link them to several big-name players, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them make a splash in the near future.
