The Pittsburgh Penguins picked up a big 5-1 road win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday.
Pittsburgh entered the game coming off a 7-2 blowout home loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. After the lackluster loss, the Penguins wanted to make a statement, and Crosby was pleased with the team’s response.
I think when you have a game like that, you just want to respond regardless of who you’re playing,” Crosby said postgame on Monday. “But I think it helps. It was a pretty intense game the last time we played them here.
“I think that, whether it’s a combination of that or the fact that we didn’t have a good one at home, I think anything that it takes to motivate you. But we were definitely motivated tonight, and you can tell with our effort.”
In the win, Crosby scored twice, including once on the power play. The Penguins had three power-play goals and went three-for-four on the power play, which head coach Dan Muse said was a key reason for the win.

“Special teams played a big role in today’s game as well,” Muse said. “Thought each side of the special teams did an outstanding job.”
With the win, the Penguins improved to 13-7-5 and are holding onto a Wild Card spot. Pittsburgh will return to the ice on Thursday on the road against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
