Steelers Place Key Starter On IR With Potentially Season-Ending Injury

He can't return until Week 17

The Pittsburgh Steelers must adjust their offensive line as they vie for a playoff spot.

Pittsburgh placed Broderick Jones on the injured list Saturday. The offensive tackle will miss at least four games, including Sunday’s clash with the Buffalo Bills, before he’s eligible to return in Week 17.

He may not come back for Pittsburgh’s final AFC North showdown against the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Sunday that Jones will miss the remainder of the 2025 season with a neck injury that’s “more serious than originally thought.”

Including the postseason, Jones has played in all 47 Steelers games since they made him the No. 14 pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. They may have missed a chance to snag the Georgia standout if the New York Jets didn’t move down from No. 13 to 15 to acquire Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers.

Jones has played in 97 percent of the offense’s snaps through 11 games this season, committing just one holding penalty. The 24-year-old has also allowed 23 pressures and six sacks for a team that ranks 27th in total yards but 10th in scoring.

Offensive linemen often stay under the radar, but Jones partook in an unusual highlight when tackling Rodgers during a passionate touchdown celebration. They both laughed off the situation despite the veteran quarterback’s instant annoyance at taking an unnecessary hit outside the pocket.

While Rodgers is on track to play through a wrist fracture after missing one game, he’ll have someone different blocking his blind side. Mike Tomlin said another former first-round pick, Andrus Peat, will start at left tackle on Sunday.
