Steelers Make Asante Samuel Jr. Move Before Bills Clash

Pittsburgh's secondary is set to get some extra help

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a very important contest against the Buffalo Bills on their schedule for Week 13. Ahead of this game, the team made an eye-opening roster move involving cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. that could help them pick up a much-needed victory over the Bills.

Samuel was formerly a starter for the Los Angeles Chargers, but his career was put on hold when he was forced to undergo spinal fusion surgery in April. After taking the time needed to get himself healthy, Samuel signed with Pittsburgh’s practice squad earlier in November. Now, he’s getting the call to the active roster, as he appears to be on track to make his season debut on Sunday.

“We have elevated CB Asante Samuel Jr. to the Active/Inactive Roster from the practice squad and placed OT Broderick Jones on the Reserve/Injured List,” the Steelers announced in a post on X.

In 2023, Samuel played in all 17 games for the Chargers, racking up 63 tackles, two interceptions, and 13 pass deflections. As a result, he certainly has the ability to play at a high level for the Steelers, but considering how it’s been over a year since he’s played in an NFL game, the team is likely going to ease him into the action.

It will be interesting to see how many snaps Samuel gets against the Bills, as the stakes for this game are very high. Pittsburgh needs all the help it can get on defense, though, and Samuel could very well make an immediate impact. Kickoff for this contest is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
