Steelers have a few key free agents they should consider re-signing before the offseason. However, Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report believes that Aaron Rodgers shouldn’t be Pittsburgh’s top priority in free agency.
“Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will probably be the Pittsburgh Steelers’ most important free agent next offseason,” Knox wrote on Friday. “However, there’s no guarantee that the soon-to-be 42-year-old wants to play beyond this season, so any thoughts of an early extension are probably moot.”
Since Rodgers might not be the Steelers’ most prioritized free agent this offseason, Knox thinks Pittsburgh should re-sign safety Kyle Dugger.
“However, the Steelers can and should offer a long-term deal to 29-year-old safety Kyle Dugger,” Knox added.
“Pittsburgh acquired Dugger from New England in exchange for a late-round pick swap, and it has already seen impactful results. Dugger has started all four games in which he’s appeared and has recorded 18 tackles, three passes defended and a pick-six while allowing an opposing passer rating of only 53.1 in coverage.”

Dugger has been playing pretty well ever since the Steelers acquired him from the Patriots on Oct. 30.
The Steelers may face several changes this offseason, particularly at quarterback and possibly with head coach Mike Tomlin’s future in question if Pittsburgh doesn’t make the playoffs. However, keeping Dugger around for a few more seasons would be a smart move.
