Steelers vs. Bears score, highlights: Pittsburgh falls in Week 12 game without Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers has enjoyed playing against the Bears throughout his illustrious career, but he could only watch on Sunday as the Steelers fell in Chicago, 31-28.

Pittsburgh had a chance to tie the game or take the lead on its final offensive possession, but Mason Rudolph’s pass on fourth down failed to reach its intended target after Jaquan Brisker got a hand on the ball at the line of scrimmage. Rudolph, who moved up the depth chart after Rodgers was ruled out with a wrist injury, finished with 171 passing yards, one touchdown, one interception and one lost fumble.

“[Rudolph] made plays for us, particularly in the fourth quarter,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said during his postgame press conference. “But as a collective, him included, we didn’t do enough to win.”

4 p.m. ET — The Steelers’ defense stops the Bears on third down, giving the offense an opportunity to tie the game or take the lead. Unfortunately for Pittsburgh fans, an illegal formation penalty wipes out a big Mason Rudolph run, and the Steelers have to punt.

1:35 p.m. ET — A terrific response from the Steelers. DK Metcalf puts the finishing touches on a 95-yard drive, and Chris Boswell drills the extra point.

1:20 p.m. ET — Yikes. Kenneth Gainwell can’t handle a knuckleball kickoff from Cairo Santos, so the Steelers will start their next drive deep in their own territory.

1:15 p.m. ET — The turnover leads to a touchdown. Caleb Williams throws a five-yard bullet pass to DJ Moore, and the extra point is good.

1:10 p.m. ET — And the Steelers give the ball right back to the Bears. Mason Rudolph tries to connect with DK Metcalf, but Nahshon Wright makes a spectacular play.

1:05 p.m. ET — A strong opening drive for the Steelers’ defensive unit. It’s a three-and-out, forcing the Bears to punt the ball away to Calvin Austin III.

12:55 p.m. ET — We are just minutes away from the start of an exciting Week 12 battle. Get those Terrible Towels ready, Steelers fans!

12:35 p.m. ET — The Bears are also dealing with a significant injury, as linebacker Tremaine Edmunds was recently placed on injured reserved. Edmunds has a team-high 89 tackles and is tied for the second-most interceptions in the NFL with four.

12:15 p.m. ET — Aaron Rodgers is on the official list of inactive players for Week 12, so he will watch the game from the sideline.

“[Rodgers] fought his tail off all week, but that’s the prudent play for us to make as a collective,” Tomlin said. “So, he won’t be playing this week. We’ll let Mason start, and obviously he’s absorbed most of the reps this week.”
