An NFL team may have just learned a hard lesson about disrespecting the Terrible Towel.
The Los Angeles Chargers celebrated a Week 10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers by mocking their opponent on social media. They called the Terrible Towel “worthless” in a meme posted after the 25-10 win at SoFi Stadium.
While the Steelers bounced back on Sunday with a 34-12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, the Chargers suffered one of the worst defeats of the 2025 season. Jim Harbaugh’s team got thoroughly manhandled in a 35-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Several Steelers fans responded to the Chargers’ Nov. 9 tweet after the Week 11 blowout. They considered the outcome karma for deriding a revered tradition.
“Terrible Towel curse is funny until it’s you,” a Steelers fan wrote.

Whatever the cause, the Chargers fell flat on Sunday. They mustered an anemic 135 yards of total offense while allowing 192 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns to the Jaguars.
Justin Herbert hit the ground hard on a sack that drew a roughing the passer penalty before halftime. The Chargers quarterback returned to start the third quarter, but he exited early in the fourth with the matchup firmly out of hand.
The Chargers dipped to 7-4, dropping two games behind the Denver Broncos in the AFC West standings. While they could have created a lengthier playoff cushion, they remain 1.5 games above three 5-5 teams (Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans) for a wild-card spot.
