Young Steelers Playmaker Named Midseason ‘Breakout’ Candidate

Pittsburgh needs a boost to its offense

The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t make any trades for a wide receiver before last Tuesday’s deadline, so every receiver on the team will need to step up their game a bit more.

Steelers star receiver DK Metcalf has been doing his part this season, recording 32 receptions for 502 yards and five scores, but he needs another receiver to help him out.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox predicted a second-half breakout candidate for each team and thinks Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson will have a huge second half of the season.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers are also searching for a dependable second receiver who can complement DK Metcalf and the team’s collection of tight ends,” Knox wrote on Wednesday. “Second-year man Roman Wilson isn’t there just yet, but he’s been targeted 10 times and has caught two touchdown passes over his last three games.”

Pittsburgh picked Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during his rookie season, which sidelined him for much of the year. As a result, this season feels like his true debut in the league.

Wilson has 11 receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns in nine games this season, but he could see more targets this week against a Cincinnati Bengals defense that is allowing 260.1 passing yards per game.
