Marquez Valdes-Scantling Explains Decision To Sign With Steelers

'He is the reason'

The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t trade for a receiver at the trade deadline, which was disappointing.

However, Pittsburgh did sign Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the practice squad on Tuesday to add another weapon on offense. On Wednesday, Valdes-Scantling said reuniting with Aaron Rodgers was the key reason why he signed with the Steelers.

“This guy next to me got me here,” Valdes-Scantling said, gesturing to Rodgers, via ESPN. “You’ve been trying to get me around since we left Green Bay. .. He is the reason.”

Valdes-Scantling played with Rodgers from 2018 until 2021 while he was with the Green Bay Packers. The 31-year-old is comfortable with Rodgers and expects to have immediate success in Pittsburgh.

“He’s the best that ever played this game, man,” Valdes-Scantling said. “So it’s pretty easy when you got that guy under center and just being on the same page. We built a great rapport over the four years that we got to play together, and he’s one of my closest friends in this NFL thing that I’ve ever made. He’s taught me a lot, so just being able to be around him again and get some more knowledge four years later, I’m excited about it.”

Rodgers, meanwhile, was also glad to reunite with Valdes-Scantling.

“I love MVS,” Rodgers said when asked about Valdes-Scantling signing with the Steelers.
