Pittsburgh Steelers Aaron Rodgers has been through a lot of NFL trade deadlines. This year was his 21st, and possibly his last.
Unfortunately for him, the Steelers didn’t make any trades this week to bolster his receiving corps or otherwise help the 41-year-old in his quest for another Super Bowl. It was a disappointingly quiet trade deadline for Pittsburgh, which could have used a WR2 or some reinforcements to shore up what’s been one of the worst defenses in the NFL this year.
If Rodgers is upset or frustrated, he isn’t letting on. His experience helps keep things in perspective, and he knows that trade deadlines are letdowns more often than not.
“What I’ve learned about the trading deadline is there’s a lot of conversation and rarely is there a lot of action,” Rodgers told reporters on Wednesday, adding that trade deadlines were even less active around the league early in his career. “You feel pretty good about your guys and we added Marquez (Valdes-Scantling) to the p-squad.”

At 5-3, the Steelers lead the AFC North by two games and have some breathing room. The Baltimore Ravens are coming on strong now that Lamar Jackson is back, however, and Pittsburgh saw last year how quickly a division lead can evaporate down the stretch.
The Steelers did trade for safety Kyle Dugger from the New England Patriots last week, so hopefully he can provide a boost to their struggling secondary. If Pittsburgh tails off during the second half again, however, it may regret not adding more at the deadline when it had the chance.
