Mike Tomlin Has Funny One-Liner On Steelers’ Defensive Turnaround In Week 9

Pittsburgh had six turnovers and five sacks in the win

The Pittsburgh Steelers entered their Week 9 game against the Indianapolis Colts as underdogs and losers of two straight games.

Pittsburgh had not been playing well, especially on defense. However, against the Colts, that all changed as Pittsburgh led 17-7 after the third quarter. They gave up 10 points in the final five minutes when the game was out of reach, en route to a 27-20 win at home.

Following the big win, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had a great one-liner when asked how the defense was able to get back on track.

“It’s a fine line between drinking wine and squashing grapes in this business,” Tomlin said postgame Sunday.

The Steelers’ defense recorded three interceptions and five sacks in a dominant performance, as well as forcing four fumbles and recovering three.

Although Pittsburgh had a stellar defensive game against the Colts, Tomlin isn’t putting too much into one game. Instead, he believes this is still the same defense that struggled against the Green Bay Packers a week ago.

“It’s nothing dramatic, it’s really not. And that’s why we respect it so much. A couple plays here and there; it might have been different last week. We don’t give up the 59-yard ball, the 33-yard ball, we don’t let them convert 4th-and-1 in the flat, for example. That’s football at this level. It’s a limited number of plays or sequences that can really change the trajectory of an outcome. We’re still the same group that stunk it up last week. That’s football.”
