The Pittsburgh Steelers have a big game on their hands in Week 9 against the Indianapolis Colts. And while their opponent ruled out a pair of key players for this contest on Friday, they are getting a big boost in their secondary with the return of one of their starting cornerbacks, Jaylon Jones.
After starting all 17 games for the Colts last season, Jones has turned himself into a key piece of the team’s secondary. He suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s season-opener against the Miami Dolphins, though, and he’s been on injured reserve ever since then. However, he has been on track to return all week long, and on Saturday, he was activated off of injured reserve by Indy.
“We have activated CB Jaylon Jones from IR and signed CB Cameron Mitchell to 53-man roster from practice squad,” the Colts announced in a post on X.
While the Colts will likely ease Jones into the action, this gives them another defensive back who can help them slow down the Steelers’ passing attack. Pittsburgh’s top wide receiver, DK Metcalf, has already had enough trouble getting open this season when opposing teams send extra help his way, and he could be in store for a tough day on Sunday.
Pittsburgh is the heavy underdog for this game, thanks in large part to just how good Indianapolis has been through eight games. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, and the Steelers are going to have to play a nearly perfect game if they want to have a shot at coming out on top in this one.
