Insider Identifies Position Steelers Are Prioritizing Before Trade Deadline

'I'm not sure I get it'

The Pittsburgh Steelers have several pressing issues to tackle before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday.

To shore up their safety position, the Steelers sent a 2026 sixth-round pick to the New England Patriots and received Kyle Dugger, along with a 2026 seventh-round pick, in return on Tuesday.

Pittsburgh needs more support on defense, as it allowed 68 points over the last two games. However, ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano is hearing that the Steelers are shifting their focus to offense.

“I am hearing a lot of the same chatter about the Steelers and wide receivers, but I’m not sure I get it,” Graziano wrote on Wednesday. “Is the offense the Steelers’ problem? They should be looking for help on defense beyond Dugger, because that’s the side of the ball that looks old, slow and threatens to doom their season.”

The Steelers recently worked out veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, but they have yet to reach a contract agreement.

Pittsburgh should prioritize bolstering its defense, but adding a reliable No. 2 receiver wouldn’t be a bad idea. With DK Metcalf being one of the league’s premier receivers, the Steelers are in a solid position. However, if he were to miss any games, it would significantly impact the receiving corps.
