Steelers Cornerback Jalen Ramsey Calls Himself Out After Loss To Bengals

Ramsey allowed a controversial touchdown to Ja'Marr Chase

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a 33-31 road loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday to fall to 4-2 on the season.

The Steelers’ defense struggled against the Bengals, as Joe Flacco threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns. Pittsburgh’s secondary was an issue, and after the game, Steelers star cornerback Jalen Ramsey took the blame and noted he has to be better.

“We have to play better, starting with myself, when the opportunity presents itself,” Ramsey said postgame on Thursday. “It’s part of the game. When you have receivers that are superstars in the league, you know that they get away with (expletive) like that. It is what it is.  Next play, you gotta play the game, you got to execute when you get the opportunity to execute.”

In the second quarter, Ramsey was covering Ja’Marr Chase, when it appeared the Bengals receiver pushed off the star corner. However, an official threw a flag on Ramsey for defensive pass interference, but it didn’t matter as Chase hauled in the touchdown pass.

Although Ramsey was frustrated with the referee’s call, he didn’t place any blame on the referee. Instead, he felt like he had to be better, as well as the entire Steelers defense.

Star pass rusher T.J. Watt seemingly agreed as he called the Steelers’ defensive play unacceptable.

“It seemed like everything (went wrong),” Watt said. “Absolutely an unacceptable performance from us on the defensive side of the ball.”
