Gold Glove Award nominations were released on Wednesday, and two Pittsburgh Pirates’ defenders were nominated for awards.
Tommy Pham was nominated for the left field award, while Jared Triolo was nominated for the utility award. Ke’Bryan Hayes was also nominated at third base, though he finished the season with the Cincinnati Reds. Former Pirates first baseman Carlos Santana also received a nomination in the American League.
Pham is nominated against Ian Happ and Kyle Stowers. Happ leads the group with zero Outs Above Average, but Pham is only just behind at -2. While Pham’s range might not be excellent, he has a strong and accurate arm. He led the group with six outfield assists.
Triolo is the reigning utility award winner. Miguel Rojas and Javier Sanoja are the other two nominees. Of the group, Triolo and Rojas are tied with five fielding runs, while Sanoja is slightly behind the pack with two. Triolo played most of his innings at shortstop, a premium defensive position, but also spent time at each of the other three infield positions.
The award winners will be announced on November 2.
