Steelers Coordinator Named Candidate For Titans Head Coaching Vacancy

Arthur Smith is in his second season as Pittsburgh's OC

The Tennessee Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan on Monday following a 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, and the team has two names in mind as candidates.

The Titans named senior offensive assistant Mike McCoy as their interim head coach. But, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy are candidates for the job.

“As far as the Titans, they now have to find a new head coach,” Rapoport said on NFL Network on Tuesday. “A couple names to watch, I would say Matt Nagy, who worked with Mike Borgonzi in Kansas City, certainly a name to watch — the decorated Chiefs. And, then Arthur Smith, the former Falcons head coach, also a former OC in Tennessee.”

Smith is in his second season as the Steelers’ offensive coordinator. In his first season in Pittsburgh, the offense averaged 317.2 yards per game and scored an average of 22.4 points per game.

The Steelers offense is averaging 23.8 points per game through five games in 2025. Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers also praised Smith for his play-calling after Week 1.

“There’s a lot of garbage being talked about either myself or Arthur out there,” Rodgers said to CBS Sports’ Evan Washburn after Week 1. “How are we going to co-exist? We’ve got a great relationship. He called a really good game. I’ve got to play a little bit better in spots. But happy to be 1-0.”

Smith was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2021 to 2023, going 21-30 after three consecutive 7-10 seasons.
