Steelers’ Mike Tomlin Roasts Browns GM For Joe Flacco Trade

"It doesn’t make sense to me"

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is plenty familiar with new Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco.

Tomlin has faced Flacco numerous times during their respective careers, primarily during the latter’s days with the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

The former Super Bowl MVP will welcome Tomlin’s Steelers to Paycor Stadium in Week 7 on “Thursday Night Football” and on Monday, the 53-year-old leader in Pittsburgh roasted Browns general manager Andrew Berry for the team’s recent trade of Flacco.

“Mike Tomlin on the Joe Flacco trade: ‘Andrew Berry must be a lot smarter than me or us, because it doesn’t make sense to me to trade a quarterback that you think enough of to make your opening-day starter to a division opponent that’s hurting in that area,'” The Athletic’s senior NFL insider Dianna Russini posted on Bluesky, via Steelers beat writer Mike DeFabo.

Flacco started the first four games of the season for Cleveland before being sent to Cincinnati.

The Bengals were in dire need of a quarterback, as two-time Pro Bowler Joe Burrow is currently sidelined with a Grade 3 turf toe injury. 29-year-old Jake Browning struggled over his four games in place of Burrow, posting six touchdowns and eight interceptions along with an 0-3 record.
