Police Give Update On Steelers QB’s Potential Ireland Robbery

Monday's update raises questions about the incident

It was reported on Sunday that injured Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Skylar Thompson had been jumped and robbed during the team’s trip to Ireland for the 2025 NFL Dublin Game.

A report from the Associated Press and ESPN on Monday is now raising questions about the incident.

Per the report, Irish police have said that there’s been no “formal complaint” filed regarding the event in Dublin and they “haven’t established whether there was a robbery.”

The team had said that Thompson was involved in a weekend, but according to Monday’s report, “neither the team nor police have confirmed reports in Irish media that the player was robbed early Saturday.”

“No formal complaint has been made by any person at this time,” the national police, An Garda Síochána, said in a statement Monday, per the report. “Following preliminary enquiries, An Garda Síochána has no further information to substantiate, or not, any report this incident involved a robbery.”

Monday’s news item said that the Irish Independent newspaper reported that “‘a number of males were involved in an assault on Thompson near the Temple Bar area’ and that the player’s phone was stolen.”

The Associated Press and ESPN report said that local police haven’t commented on a reported assault.

“Police said they became involved early Saturday when officers on patrol on Dame Street ‘encountered a male who required medical assistance,'” Monday’s report said. “‘The male in his 20s was treated and assessed at the scene by emergency services personnel,’ the police statement added.”
