The Pittsburgh Steelers traveled overseas to take on the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland, for their Week 4 action, and they ended up earning a 24-21 victory when all was said and done. Several of the team’s former players were on hand for the contest, including Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis.
Over the past few years, the NFL has increased its efforts to expand internationally, and in 2025, that resulted in the league playing a regular-season game in Ireland for the first time ever. Bettis made the trip to be a part of the pregame festivities, and he sent a strong message about his experience on social media on Monday morning.
“Ireland…you didn’t just impress, you delivered,” Bettis said in a post on X, “Honored to be part of the Steelers first NFL game in Dublin, the unforgettable festivities, and a few rounds of world-class golf. Steelers Win. Golf. Great people. Hard to beat.”
Previously, the NFL held a preseason game in Ireland back in 1997, with the Steelers taking on the Chicago Bears. Bettis was a member of that Pittsburgh team, and he would go on to have arguably the best season of his career that year, rushing for 1,665 yards and seven touchdowns on a league-leading 375 carries.
Winning is always nice, but doing so in an international game is even better, and the Steelers took care of business against the Vikings with Bettis and several other former players in attendance. And making things even better, Pittsburgh gets to enjoy a bye week before turning their attention to their Week 6 matchup with the Cleveland Browns.
