Steelers backup running back Kenneth Gainwell delivered an outstanding performance in Pittsburgh’s 24-21 victory against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. His impressive play received praise from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
“I think today we ran the ball pretty effectively,” Rodgers said Sunday. “Obviously, if you’re a football fan, you know who Kenneth Gainwell is. It seemed like every time he went into the game for the Philadelphia Eagles, I thought, ‘Man, this guy is really good.’ He should get more touches. So when I came here, I knew what kind of player he was. I tell him all the time he’s an absolute baller.”
Gainwell spent the last four seasons playing in Philadelphia, rushing for 1,185 yards and 12 touchdowns in 66 games.
Pittsburgh signed Gainwell to a one-year contract this offseason to back up running back Jaylen Warren.
Warren missed Sunday’s game with a knee injury, and Gainwell stepped up in his absence, rushing for 99 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.
