The Los Angeles Dodgers won their 82nd game of the season on Wednesday, routing the Colorado Rockies 9-0 to finish off a three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium. The victory clinched a 15th straight winning season for the Dodgers, tying the National League record.
The record was originally established by the Pittsburgh Pirates, who had a winning record every year from 1899 to 1913. Led by Hall of Fame shortstop Honus Wagner, the Pirates appeared in the first Fall Classic (1903) and won their first World Series title (1909) during this span.
Pittsburgh has had other periods of sustained success, but none recently. With 83 losses this year, the Pirates have already clinched their seventh consecutive losing season and their 29th losing season in the last 33 years.
Los Angeles and Pittsburgh share the record with the St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves. The Cardinals had two separate streaks of 15 winning seasons, doing so from 1939 to 1953 and again from 2008 to 2022. The Braves had their run from 1991 to 2005.

The New York Yankees hold the American League record with 39 straight winning seasons from 1926 to 1964. They have the longest active streak as well with 32 (soon to be 33) consecutive winning seasons.
The Dodgers have been the most successful organization in baseball this decade, winning two of the last five World Series and making 12 straight playoff appearances from 2013 to 2024. They’ve dominated the NL West and are poised to win their 12th division title in the last 13 years.
Having the sport’s highest payroll helps, but Los Angeles is also a well-run organization that develops homegrown talent, makes smart trades and spends big in free agency. The Dodgers are a model franchise with a loaded roster, so the defending World Series champs aren’t going away anytime soon.
