Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell is fast becoming the king of Week 1.
Boswell kicked off the 2024 season (pun intended) by scoring all 18 of the Steelers’ points in their 18-10 road victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1. He made all six of his field-goal attempts, three of which were from over 50 yards.
Boswell won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts — an award he also captured in Week 11 last year. Not surprisingly, he won AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in September and October, igniting the best season of his career where he led the NFL in field goals made (41) and earned his first All-Pro honor.
The 34-year-old picked up where he left off in his season debut on Sunday, helping Pittsburgh prevail 34-32 over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. He made all four of his extra-point attempts (a league-high) and both of his field goals, including a career-long 60-yarder that gave the Steelers the lead for good with just over a minute left.
Boswell was so calm under pressure that Mike Tomlin compared him to a serial killer after the game due to his “low pulse rate.”

On Wednesday, Boswell was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week again — the fifth time he’s won the award in his 11-year career. Three of those awards have come in the last calendar year, proving he’s better than ever.
Boswell will try to stay hot in Pittsburgh’s home opener on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, who are coming off a 17-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. Boswell has been outstanding at Acrisure Stadium throughout his career, converting 90.2% of his field-goal attempts and 95.4% of his extra-point tries.
