The Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets engaged in a shootout in Week 1, with Aaron Rodgers eventually leading the Steelers to a 34-32 victory over his former team. It’s clear that this win meant quite a bit for Rodgers when considering how the Jets’ new regime decided to dump him over the offseason.
Rodgers turned back the clock in his debut with Pittsburgh, throwing for 244 yards and four touchdowns to power his team to victory. He also put together this performance in enemy territory, as the raucous crowd at MetLife Stadium made their support for New York loud and clear throughout the game.
They didn’t do enough, though, and Rodgers made sure to let Jets fans know after the game, while also saluting the Steelers fanbase. Rodgers revealed that the thing that stood out to him late in this clash was how much noise Pittsburgh fans were making, despite this being an away game for their team.
“The thing I can say that I do know about Steelers fans is in the fourth quarter in crunch time when they had the ball at MetLife, it was loud, and that was our fans,” Rodgers said when speaking to reporters recently.
The excitement surrounding the Steelers entering the 2025 season is tough to ignore, and some fans simply couldn’t wait until Week 2 to see their favorite team take the field. Rodgers appreciated that sentiment, and it may just have helped Pittsburgh open the season with a win.
