Steelers Week 1 Injury Report Vs. Jets Provides Good News

Who's in and who's out for the Steelers in Week 1 vs. the Jets?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a mostly clean bill of health heading into their Week 1 game against the New York Jets.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave a host of injury updates on Tuesday afternoon, five days ahead of the team’s season-opener.

“Mike Tomlin said that DT Derrick Harmon (MCL sprain) is the only player he’s currently ruling out. Nick Herbig (hamstring) is questionable as of now,” Mike DeFabo of The Athletic wrote on X. “Calvin Austin III and Alex Highsmith should be good to go.”

Rookie first-round pick Derrick Harmon suffered a sprained MCL in Pittsburgh’s preseason finale and has labeled himself as “week-to-week.”

Third-year linebacker Nick Herbig is dealing with a hamstring injury and has less than one week to get ready for Sunday afternoon’s contest against Gang Green. Herbig finished second on the team last season in forced fumbles (four), while ranking fourth in both quarterback hits (11) and sacks (5.5).

The news on Alex Highsmith and Calvin Austin is huge for Steelers fans.

Highsmith was third on the Steelers last year in quarterback hits (13), tackles for loss (nine) and sacks (6.0) despite missing six games. Austin is expected to serve as the team’s second top wideout behind newcomer D.K. Metcalf.

Austin finished last season second on the squad in receiving touchdowns (four) and third in targets (58) and receiving yards (548) among other categories.
