How Pirates Hitter Caught Fire At Plate In August

Jared Triolo is red hot at the plate

Pittsburgh Pirates utility man Jared Triolo hasn’t found consistent offensive success since his rookie year. Triolo burst onto the scene in 2023, hitting .298 in 54 games.

Since then, his offensive output hasn’t been as steady. He hit just .216 in 125 games last season, and was hitting .205 in 2025 entering Sunday.

Triolo has yoyoed between Pittsburgh and Triple-A Indianapolis this season. He was most recently recalled on August 1, and has found his timing at the plate since rejoining the Pirates. He’s hitting .323 with two home runs in 21 games over that span, including a 2-2, 3 RBI performance in a 4-0 win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

While it’s only a 21-game sample, Triolo made a change to his swing that might be fueling the improvement. He raised his hands at setup, closer to where they were in his excellent rookie season. Pirates manager Don Kelly noticed the improvement.

“Man, he’s swinging the bat great,” manager Don Kelly said. “Barreling balls. Honestly, his swing throughout the year, he didn’t have the results to show for it. I know he wished the results were there, but we’re starting to see that.”

Triolo will have the rest of the season to try to continue producing at the plate. He brings value to the team with his glove, but the Pirates need more from him offensively. He’s yet to hit arbitration, so he could represent a cost-controlled infield option going forward.
