Former Steelers First-Round Pick Signs With Raiders In Free Agency

Terrell Edmunds has found a new home in free agency

The Pittsburgh Steelers have brought several new faces to town this offseason, but they have also moved on from quite a few players, too. One guy they moved on midway through last season was former first-round safety Terrell Edmunds, and it sounds like he has finally found a new home.

Selected with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Edmunds immediately earned a starting safety job with the Steelers. After spending five years with them as an anchor in their secondary, Edmunds has spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers, while also reuniting with Pittsburgh briefly in 2024.

Edmunds didn’t play much in 2024, as he racked up just seven tackles in six games of action with the Jaguars and Steelers. However, he has latched on with a new squad, as the Las Vegas Raiders signed Edmunds in free agency on Sunday, providing their secondary with some much-needed depth.

“We have signed free agent S Terrell Edmunds. In a corresponding move, we have waived/injured WR Seth Williams,” the Raiders announced in a post on X.

Las Vegas has Jeremy Chinn and Isaiah Pola-Mao as its starting safety duo, but they are turning to Edmunds to provide some veteran depth at the position. While he hasn’t been all that effective over the past couple of years, Edmunds has a track record of success in the NFL, which makes taking a flier on him a harmless move for the Raiders.

Edmunds faces longer odds at cracking Las Vegas’ final roster, but he could be stashed on their practice squad as an emergency depth option if he plays well over the next few weeks. The Steelers will be keeping tabs on Edmunds, but with a new-look secondary in place, it wasn’t much of a surprise to see them move on from him.
