Pirates Journeyman Outfielder Wins Major Award

The 37-year-old was traded each of the last three seasons but has provided veteran leadership with the Pirates in 2025

Tommy Pham was traded three straight seasons from 2022 to 2024, going from the Cincinnati Reds to the Boston Red Sox, the New York Mets to the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago White Sox to the St. Louis Cardinals, respectively.

The journeyman outfielder signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in February and has been a good fit with the Buccos, ranking second in wins above replacement (WAR) at 1.4 and on-base percentage (.338) through his 80 games in 2025.

Pham’s hard work has been rewarded, as the 37-year-old was among the 30 MLBPAA Heart & Hustle Award winners announced on Tuesday.

“The 2025 MLBPAA Heart & Hustle Award winners for all 30 teams have been announced!” MLB’s X account posted. “The award is voted on by former MLB players and players are selected who embody the values, spirit and traditions of the game.”

“Congratulations on being named our 2025 Heart & Hustle Award winner, Tommy Pham!” the Pirates posted on Bluesky.
