DK Metcalf Hits Steelers Defense With Bold Label — ‘Best I’ve Ever Seen’

Metcalf is a big fan of Pittsburgh's defense

The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering the 2025 season with some high hopes, which is due in large part to the big moves they made over the offseason. One of their new star additions is wide receiver DK Metcalf, and while he’s focused on making the offense better, he couldn’t help but gush over the Steelers’ new-look defense.

Pittsburgh picked up Metcalf in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks early in the offseason and immediately signed him to a five-year, $150 million contract extension. After the team sent George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, it was clear that Metcalf was going to be tasked with being the team’s top option in the passing game.

In training camp, Metcalf is working on getting on the same page with Aaron Rodgers under center, but that’s proving to be a difficult task because of the Steelers’ defense. Metcalf and the rest of the offense have their work cut out for them going up against this unit on a daily basis, and it sounds like the star pass-catcher is very impressed with what he’s seen from the defense so far.

“You don’t want my opinion, because I think they best defense I done ever seen,” Metcalf said in an interview with Ian Rapoport and Steve Smith Sr. “It’s some dawgs everywhere on the field. And I tip my hat to them because they come to work every day, and we don’t have any choice but to get better.”

Over the offseason, Pittsburgh shored up arguably its biggest defensive weakness, their secondary, when it signed Darius Slay in free agency and traded for Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins. Add them to a unit that already features a lethal front seven with a recently extended T.J. Watt and guys like Alex Highsmith and Cameron Heyward, and it’s clear this group is dangerous.

It may be a bit premature to label them the best defense he’s ever seen, but Metcalf made his point loud and clear. The Steelers’ defense is going to be lethal, and if the offense can hold up its end of the bargain, it could end up becoming one of the scariest teams in the league.
