The Pittsburgh Steelers shuffled their defensive front heading into August, signing lineman Kyler Baugh to the 90-man roster.
As announced Friday, the move coincided with the release of Jacob Slade, who was waived with an injury designation.
The signing was first reported by Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
Baugh, 24, is looking for his first NFL regular-season action after a year of bouncing between practice squads.
Undrafted out of Minnesota in 2024, he originally signed with the New Orleans Saints before brief stints with the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons.
He also suited up for the UFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks this spring, registering 14 tackles and one sack.
At Minnesota’s Pro Day last year, Baugh ran a 4.97-second 40-yard dash at 6-foot-1 and 302 pounds. He also posted a 33 ½-inch vertical jump and measured in with 32 ¼-inch arms, as reported by Joe Clark of Steelers Depot.

Baugh’s final college season in 2023 saw him rack up 41 tackles, six for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble and one recovery. Across two years with the Golden Gophers, he totaled 77 tackles, four sacks and four pass deflections. Before that, he played 26 games at Houston Baptist, tallying over 100 tackles during his time there.
The Steelers have been dealing with numerous injuries along the defensive line, including Dean Lowry, Esezi Otomewo and Slade.
Baugh joins a group headlined by Cameron Heyward and rounded out by Keeanu Benton, Daniel Ekuale, Yahya Black, Derrick Harmon, Isaiahh Loudermilk and Logan Lee.
He was expected to make his Steelers debut last night during the team’s annual Friday Night Lights practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.
