The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the busiest teams across the NFL this offseason, as they have made it clear they are loading up in an effort to go on a deep playoff run in 2025. However, even with training camp now underway, there could still be a trade for the Steelers to make before the start of the campaign.
Pittsburgh has been linked to a plethora of offensive playmakers over the past few months, which resulted in them swinging trades for wide receiver DK Metcalf and tight end Jonnu Smith. They did send George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, though, so they could conceivably still be looking for help in this area.
With that in mind, the Steelers have been keeping close tabs on the contract drama involving the Washington Commanders and Terry McLaurin. On Thursday night, things took a surprising turn when McLaurin reportedly requested a trade out of Washington, which is something Pittsburgh’s front office will certainly take note of.
“BREAKING: Commanders All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin has requested a trade, multiple sources tell me,” Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reported in a post on X.
McLaurin has made it very clear he’s looking for a new deal this offseason, but to this point, the Commanders have not been willing to meet his demands. After skipping mandatory minicamp and initially holding out from training camp, McLaurin reported to training camp earlier this week, only to now request a trade.

Reports have indicated that McLaurin wants a substantial pay raise that would see him earn well over $30 million per year. After committing $150 million to Metcalf earlier this offseason, would the Steelers be willing to hand out another big-money deal to a wide receiver? It’s certainly a possibility, especially now that a trade could be in the cards for McLaurin in the coming weeks.
