Steelers Veteran Chooses Awkward Way To Announce Own Release

CP84 is done in Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers released do-it-all weapon Cordarrelle Patterson on Monday, according to… well, the man himself.

Patterson announced the news in an extremely awkward post to X.

“Breaking news,” the post read. “Pittsburgh Steelers release old washed up cordarrelle patterson on his day off!!!”

Patterson had an underwhelming first season in Pittsburgh, finishing with just 215 yards from scrimmage as injuries limited him to 13 games in 2024. The Steelers evidently wanted to move in a different direction, and likely were influenced by the fact he hadn’t practiced in any of the club’s first four training camp sessions of 2025.

It’ll remain to be seen what the future holds for Patterson, but if he’s to be believed, perhaps it’s just returning home to Rock Hill, S.C.
