Former Pittsburgh Steelers star Minkah Fitzpatrick will begin his Miami Dolphins tenure on a restructured deal.
Pittsburgh sent Fitzpatrick to Miami in a stunning deal that brought back tight end Jonnu Smith and shutdown cornerback Jalen Ramsey last month. The 28-year-old safety had no guaranteed money left on his contract before agreeing to revisions with the Dolphins, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Fitzpatrick will receive a guaranteed $16.245 million signing bonus this season. Schefter said converting his salary into a bonus saves the Dolphins $11 million in salary cap space.
“We are comfortable with this commitment to Minkah as we continue to work with the Dolphins on a multi-year extension,” Fitzpatrick’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Schefter.
Fitzpatrick began his career in Miami before getting traded to the Steelers in 2019. He spent six seasons as a secondary lynchpin, tallying 516 tackles and 18 interceptions in 88 games.

The former first-round pick received first-team All-Pro nods in 2019, 2020 and 2022 and made his third straight Pro Bowl when registering 96 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble last season. Fitzpatrick concluded his Steelers career by notching nine tackles in an opening-round playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Pittsburgh continued an eventful offseason by trading Fitzpatrick back to Miami at the end of June. The Steelers received another three-time All-Pro in Ramsey, who’s under contract through the 2028 season.
The Steelers recently signed former Ravens starter Chuck Clark as a depth option at safety. They locked down DeShon Elliott to a two-year extension and signed former Cleveland Browns safety Juan Thornhill to a one-year deal.
