New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields dominated the headlines on Thursday, with his minor toe injury initially looking much worse than it ended up being as he was carted off the field in Florham Park, N.J. Miami Dolphins cornerback Artie Burns was also carted off the field during his team’s first training camp practice, though he didn’t end up being as lucky.
Burns suffered a torn ACL on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Dolphins essentially confirmed the news on Thursday, placing him on injured reserve and signing another defensive back to take his spot on the active roster.
Burns, as you probably already know, spent the first four seasons of his career in Pittsburgh after being selected 25th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Burns collected four total interceptions across his time with the franchise, moving on after his fifth-year option was declined and eventually spending time with the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks — where injuries continuously derailed his momentum.

It’s much of the same now that he’s with the Dolphins, where a second major knee injury could have a major impact on whether or not he gets another chance.
