Aaron Rodgers Makes Thoughts Extremely Clear On Mentoring Will Howard

Rodgers is more than happy to help Howard out

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Aaron Rodgers to a one-year, $13.65 million contract in free agency this offseason to come in and be their quarterback for the 2025 season. However, the team’s plans at the quarterback position beyond this season are murky at best, as Rodgers revealed that this could be his final year in the league.

In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Steelers took a flier on former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard in the sixth round. While Rodgers is holding down the fort for the time being, the Steelers coaching staff will be eager to work on developing Howard behind the scenes, with the hope being that he could eventually emerge as their long-term starter.

As a rookie, Howard will be tasked with soaking up all the information he can, while also making improvements behind the scenes. Part of that will involve working alongside Rodgers, and according to the future Hall of Famer, he’s more than happy to lend Howard a helping hand if he needs it.

“I told him last night … ‘What can I do for you?’ Because I want to be a support system for him and pass on anything I can,” Rodgers said when speaking to reporters. “I don’t want to overstep my bounds, but if he wants to learn anything or pick my brain or be in my hip pocket, I’m all for it.”

If there’s anyone who knows what it takes to be a successful quarterback in the NFL, it’s Rodgers. Over the course of his 20-year career, Rodgers is a 10-time Pro Bowler who has also been selected to the All-Pro First Team four times. He’s also won four MVP Awards and a Super Bowl championship.

While helping Howard is something Rodgers wants to do, he’s also got his hands full learning the Steelers’ playbook. After a somewhat messy first day of practice on Thursday, Rodgers and the rest of Pittsburgh’s offense will look to have a better day when they take the field on Friday.
