Aaron Rodgers’ first pass of Pittsburgh Steelers training camp on Thursday didn’t exactly go as planned.
“Aaron Rodgers’ first team-period pass is intercepted by Patrick Queen. Looked like Rodgers just didn’t see him,” ESPN’s Brooke Pryor posted on X. “Big Ooooos from the crowd at Latrobe.”
Linebacker Patrick Queen is one of the Steelers best defenders, earning his second straight Pro Bowl honor last season, his first in Pittsburgh.
Still, Rodgers’ unofficial start to his Steelers career (albeit in a meaningless training camp practice) couldn’t have gone much worse.

Moments later, however, the 41-year-old hooked up with No. 1 wide receiver (and fellow newcomer) D.K. Metcalf, in what fans are hoping is a preview of what’s to come in the fall.
“The first Aaron Rodgers-to-DK Metcalf completion of training camp,” Mike DeFabo of The Athletic posted on X.
After an eventful, yet largely unsuccessful two-year run with the New York Jets, Rodgers is looking to silence his doubters in the 2025 campaign, which could be his final season in the NFL. The four-time MVP signed a one-year contract with the Steelers in early June.

Rodgers finished the 2024 season with his lowest completion percentage (63.0%) since 2019, not counting 2023 when he only played four snaps. He recorded 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last year, good for a 90.5 passer rating. Most importantly, Rodgers’ Jets went just 5-12, which was the 10-time Pro Bowler’s worst mark of his career.
With Father Time not on his side, Rodgers fell out of the top 10 in ESPN’s recent rankings of the top quarterbacks.
